Common Misconceptions About Calling Our Triage Line

If you’ve had a test and are awaiting your results, you deserve to know them as soon as possible. You also will want to talk through your results with a licensed medical provider who can help you take the next step. When you call the River Bend office and ask for your results, we may refer you to our triage line, as our triage providers are licensed and approved to discuss your results with you.

Here are some common misconceptions about our triage line and how it works:

“I’m just going to get passed off to another nurse/medical assistant.”

Providers, particularly physicians, have a lot of responsibilities both clinical and administrative. Doctors can usually call you back within about two or three days. It may not seem like a long wait, but when you need answers you deserve them on the same day. Our triage providers are licensed physician assistants or nurse practitioners. They are licensed to treat and their word is final. Their sole job is to cater to your needs and accommodate you, whether it be getting you a slot on us packed schedule or handling your refill (with a few restrictions, for example, certain controlled substances and no one on a pain plan).

“Why can’t my doctor’s MA just call me back with the results of my x-rays, lab work, or specialist report?”

Our triage providers are licensed to discuss all of your results with you. MAs are not licensed to dispense treatment or medical advice. If you call triage and still feel the need to speak with your doctor or preferred provider, please feel free to message your provider on our patient portal. Alternatively triage can send a message on your behalf and can indicate whether it is urgent.
